If you own a garage door or are planning to buy one, being familiar with the key terms used (when talking about garage doors) will help you communicate with your dealer easier. Below are a few basic terms that you should know about:

1.Window Lite

This is basically refers to the windows of your garage doors. there are many different of patterns and kinds of glass to choose from for your windows.

2.Sections

These are the steel panels found on your garage doors. they are strengthened by vertical stiles that are found in between your garage door rails.

3.Bottom Bracket

Bottom brackets are found at the sides of your garage door at its bottom. They provide support for the cables that lift the doors.

4.Cable Drum

This is where the torsion spring will wrap around as the garage door is being opened.

5.Torsion Springs

Torsion springs are the arms of your garage door. These springs are responsible for the opening and closing of a garage door.

6.Extension Springs

Springs that are found on the upper right and left of your garage door.

7.Rear Track Hanger

The rear track hanger is responsible for attaching the horizontal track of your garage door to the far end of your garages ceiling.

8.Track

The track is the path that guides your garage door as it opens and closes. It is also found on the ceiling of your garage.

Knowing the different parts of your garage door will allow you to observe them and make sure that these key parts are working properly and smoothly. Should you find any of these parts not working properly, it is best that you call a qualified service man for the job.
