Garage Door Adjustment: Chain Drive Opener
Once in a while you will need to perform garage door adjustment projects to keep your garage door working at its best. Periodically you will need to tighten screw and bolts and adjust springs. The garage door opener is also one of the parts of the garage door system that you will need to check up on and make adjustments to.
The most common type of opener in homes today uses the chain drive system. With regular use, the chains might become loose and cause it to drag on your garage door track. Below are the easy steps on how to make garage door adjustment on your chain drive opener.
Step 1: Inspect and clean the chain.
Since you are going to be working with garage door chains, it is best that you clean them before adjusting. Remove any grime or debris build up that may hinder the chain from smoothly operating.
Step 2: Lower the door to relieve tension from the chain.
Step 3: Unplug your opener. It is very dangerous to make repairs or adjustments to a garage door when its opener is still plugged.
Step 4: If your opener has its own chain tension adjusting device, either on the chain or on the opener, go ahead and adjust it according to the manufacturers manual. If your opener does not have the chain tension adjustment feature you will need to tighten the chain with a turnbuckle.
When you perform garage door adjustment to your chain, do not over tighten it. This will cause damage to the entire system.
